Loyalsock man facing drug charges

On Behalf of | Mar 14, 2024 | Drug Charges

Loyalstock Township runs along the Susquehanna River in Pennsylvania. Police paid a visit to a home there to execute a search warrant. As a result, a 41-year-old resident of the home was taken into custody. He is now facing several drug charges, as well as a child endangerment count.

Upon combing through the rooms and personal belongings in the house, police say they confiscated several items. In addition to more than $10,000 cash, investigators say they retrieved a substance that they believed to be cocaine. Police officers discovered the substance inside a child’s bedroom closet, which is what prompted the child endangerment charge.

Preliminary hearing waived

The man facing drug charges and other criminal accusations posted a $15,000 bail. He waived his right to a preliminary hearing. This is common in cases where a defense attorney and prosecutor have worked out a plea agreement, although it was not stated whether that has occurred in this situation.

Penalties for possible conviction of drug charges

In Pennsylvania, a conviction for possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver carries a mandatory prison sentence. An individual may pay thousands of dollars in fines as well. Knowing what is at stake typically compels those facing drug charges to seek guidance from an experienced criminal defense attorney before going to trial. An attorney acts as a personal advocate to the accused to help him or her obtain the most positive outcome possible.
